Privacy policy
This covers the Math Mingle: Number Puzzle app for iOS and Android, and this website. It is written to be read rather than to be survived.
The short version
We collect nothing and run no server. Your times and settings are stored on your own device and are deleted with the app, and there is no account of ours and no analytics. Two things do reach other companies: adverts, served by Google AdMob, and the online leaderboard, which is Apple's Game Center and Google's Play Games Services and only if you choose to sign in. Both are described below.
What the app stores, and where
On your device only, in the operating system's own preference store:
- Your best times, for each board, difficulty and operation.
- Counts of rounds played and answers right and wrong.
- Your settings: theme, sound, haptics, and the display options.
- Whether you have seen the How To Play cards, and whether the app has already asked you to rate it.
None of it is transmitted anywhere. We cannot see it, and there is no server for it to be sent to. Deleting the app deletes all of it. If you have your device's own backup turned on, your device may include this data in that backup — that is between you and Apple or Google, and we have no access to it.
What the app does not collect
- No name, email address, phone number or account of any kind.
- No location.
- No contacts, photos, microphone or camera.
- No advertising identifier. We never read it, and on iPhone and iPad the app does not contain the framework that would let it.
- No analytics, crash reporting or usage telemetry.
- No server of ours. There is nowhere for your data to be sent, because we do not run anything for it to be sent to.
The online leaderboard
The game keeps sixty leaderboards on your device — one for every board shape, difficulty and kind of maths. Those work with no account, no internet connection and no sign-in, and they are what the game calls your personal best. Nothing about them leaves the phone.
You may also compare your times with other players. That uses Game Center on iPhone and iPad and Play Games Services on Android — Apple's and Google's own services, not ours.
- Only if you sign in. If you decline, or never sign in, nothing is sent and the whole game still works.
- What is sent is a board name and a time, in milliseconds. Nothing else. There is no message, no profile and no device information in it.
- We never see who you are. Your Game Center or Play Games nickname belongs to Apple or Google. We do not receive it, store it or have any way to look it up.
- We hold none of it. The table lives on Apple's and Google's systems. To remove your scores, or to stop taking part, use the Game Center or Play Games settings on your device — deleting our app does not remove what they hold, because it was never ours to remove.
What they do with it is covered by their policies, not this one: Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
This is why the Android app asks for internet permission. It is used for Play Games Services and for nothing else; the game itself makes no network calls.
Notifications
If you allow them, the app may schedule one local reminder a few days after you last opened it. It is created and delivered by your own device — nothing is sent through us or through anyone else, and no push server is involved. Opening the app reschedules it, so it only ever reaches somebody who has stopped playing. You can refuse at the prompt or turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.
Sharing a result
The share button opens your device's own share sheet with a line of text in it. Where it goes is entirely your choice, and we are not told. Whichever app you pick then applies its own privacy policy.
Rating the app
The app may ask Apple or Google to show their own in-app review sheet. That sheet belongs to the store, not to us: we do not see whether it appeared, what you wrote, or whether you rated anything.
Advertising
The game shows adverts, supplied by Google AdMob. There are two kinds, and neither is required to play:
- A full-screen advert between rounds, shown when you leave the result screen — never while you are solving, never before you have read your time, and never in your first three rounds. How often depends on the difficulty you chose, and there is always at least a 75-second gap.
- An advert you choose to watch in exchange for two extra hints. It is an offer and nothing more: the game is completable without it, and the clock stops while it plays so watching one never costs you a leaderboard time.
To serve those adverts, Google receives technical information about your device in the ordinary course of doing so — see how Google uses data when you use its partners' sites or apps. We do not receive that data and we do not combine it with anything.
On iPhone and iPad we do not ask to track you and the app does not read the advertising identifier. It does not even contain Apple's tracking framework. The adverts you see there are non-personalised, which earns us less and is the trade we chose.
In the EEA and the UK you will be asked for consent before any personalised advert is served, through Google's User Messaging Platform. You can change that answer at any time in your device's Google settings, and declining does not change the game.
Children. The game suits children and we have not directed it at them as a matter of advertising law, so adverts are served under Google's ordinary rules. If you are setting the game up for a child, a device-level content setting is the right control.
This website
This site may carry advertising supplied by Google. Where it does, Google and its partners may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure those ads, and may receive your IP address, browser and page information in the ordinary course of doing so. We do not receive that data and we do not combine it with anything.
Children
The game is suitable for children and is rated accordingly. It collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, which is the only promise on this page that does not depend on a setting.
Your rights
Rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA and similar laws — access, correction, deletion, portability, objection — all concern personal data held by us. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to hand over, correct or delete. To remove everything the app has stored, delete the app.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that affects what is collected will be made before the version that collects it is released, not after.
